Picks of the Week: 5/9/12

BATMAN #9: The best crossover event in comics continues! The tensions rise in “Night of the Owls”. With the Talons have breached the Batcave and overrun Wayne Manor, Batman fights back for his life. Plus, this must-read issue also features a backup story highlighting the Pennyworth family and secrets they have withheld from the Wayne family.

FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E #9: This issue marks the end of writer Jeff Lemire’s fun-filled run on this series. When S.H.A.D.E. sends Frankenstein to find Animal Man, it results in a battle with Rotlings. Leaving the title in style and a heartfelt moment that is indicative of his talents as a storyteller, Lemire wraps up on a high note.

Wolverine and the X-men #10: Tying directly into Avengers Vs X-men, what happens when Cyclops makes his way to the Jean Grey School? History repeats itself as Scott comes to Logan’s door and tires to force him to choose a side. The return of Chris Bachalo on this series brings back the crazy edge that Jason Aaron’s stories demand! A great read and a real turning point of AVX!

Invincible #91: A huge turning point for Mark Grayson, as he deals with a conspiracy that wants him dead, convincing his friends and allies that a murderous Dinosaur is the savor of the world, and a big change to his powers. I know I’ve said this countless times but Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley continue to bring the best superhero book outside of the Big Two!
