Picks of the Week: 1/18/12

Batman #5: The Dark Knight is trapped in the Court of Owl’s labyrinth deep beneath Gotham. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo continue to put out the best Batman series in years. Snyder and Capullo really step it up in this issue as they layout of the issue forces readers to turn the pages side ways and upside down to represent the confusion of the Maze of Nightmares.
Wonder Woman #5: Writer Brian Azzarello continues to surprise with his stellar take on Wonder Woman. This issue finds the title character having left Paradise Island to return to her home in London. Besides featuring the best female lead character in comics, this installment boasts the great guest art of Tony Akins (Jack of Fables). A pull worthy book.
Daredevil #8: Guest artist Kano joins writer Mark Waid in this second and final part of “Devil and the Details”. This crossover picks up where last week’s Amazing Spider-Man #677 left off. Waid shines with his engaging and lighthearted brand of superhero storytelling which showcases his deft handle on these timeless characters.
Ultimate Comics Spiderman # 6: With a new costume, curiosity of Nick Fury, Miles Morales goes out as his first official adventure as the new Spiderman only to get his butt kicked. Miles learns the hard way that he has a lot to learn about being Spiderman and only one man can teach him; Peter Parker?! This issue also features Mile’s uncle Aaron (The Ultimate Prowler) and introduces the new Ultimate Scorpion. Guest artist Chris Samnee joins Brian Bendis in the fun journey of a new hero.
