THE ENDLESS
By: Miguel Acedo
Imagine sitting down at a dinner table with the Endless, a family of extraordinary entities. They exist because mortals, gods, demons, and aliens across the cosmos believe they exist. Family members include: Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium.
The Endless are the embodiment of their names. Although some may welcome the opportunity to come face to face with Death and live to tell about it, this is one eventual meeting that most will want to put-off.
To share a Thanksgiving Dinner with the Endless would be no different than to share one amongst any other siblings. The only difference is that in this scenario, sentient life would be in jeopardy. On a cosmic level.
So, if no one has invited you over to their place to celebrate Thanksgiving, don’t Despair. If the holiday season already has you are on the verge of Delirium, and you Desire any Dream you may have to come true, have it be this one: May you not learn firsthand that the Destiny of all creation is Destruction.
Avoiding these entities is something worth being Endless-ly Thankful for.
The Summers Family
By Kris Moore
If you sat down with the Summers clan for a holiday meal you’d find yourself breaking bread with space pirates, former super villains and children from alternate timelines.
Both Scott and his younger brother Alex have dangerous mutant abilities. Cyclops can destroy everything he sees, while Havok’s body acts like a living battery. If these two were to argue over who gets the last drumstick, you can bet it would end in a barrage of energy blasts and destruction.
Their father Christopher Summers, also known as the space pirate Corsair, captain of the Starjammers would probably he brings his alien pirate buddies, like Ch’od, who always drinks all the alcohol and clogs the toilet.
At the head of the kid’s table would be Scott’s only son, a mutant anti-hero from the future named Cable– who actually looks much older than Scott.
The rest of the kid’s table would be filled with Summers children from alternate timelines. Rachel Grey, aka Marvel Girl, is the daughter of Scott and Jean Gray from the dystopian future “Days of the Future Past” where she was mind-controlled and forced to hunt down other mutants. Nate Grey, aka X-Man, is the clone of Scott and Jean from the Age of Apocalypse alternate timeline who was created by that world’s version of Mr. Sinister.
Speaking of Sinister, a gathering of the Summers clan is likely to attract this Victorian Era scientist who believes that the Summers and Grey bloodlines are the key to creating a master race of mutants. You think it’s bad when your creepy uncle crashes your holiday party?
The Summers family tree is more like a small forest, with each new branch stranger than the last. Although most of the Summers clan have proven themselves to be brave heroes, they’d make for lousy holiday party guests. As you gather with your family for the holidays this year, you can at least be thankful that you never have to worry about your dead siblings or future children showing up out of the blue to ruin your life.
The Marvel Family
By Peter J Mellini
Growing up in an orphanage, Billy is so thankful to be able to spend Thanksgiving with the sister he never knew he had, an ancient wizard and a talking, somewhat uptight tiger.
Being as the Wizard can’t leave the Rock of Eternity, the Marvel family brings Thanksgiving to him. Mr Twany Tawky prepares a delicious dinner while making sure Billy doesn’t sneak a taste of the pies. With the arrival of Freddie Freeman (Captain Marvel Jr), dinner can begin.
Twany has set up a beautiful table arrangement ending at the Wizard’s throne. Freddie notices that Billy has been place at the kids table and mocks him. Angrily Billy clenches his fists and utters the magic word SHAZAM! The wizard turns to Billy “yes?”
The Wizard does the honors of carving the turkey but is interrupted by rumbling in hall. Bursting through the wall is the black sheep of the Marvel Family, BLACK ADAM! Teth-Adam grabs the entire turkey in hand and begins eating it like one would an apple. This enrages Twany as he grows and yells “You’ve ruined my perfect dinner!”
Billy, still worked up over Freddie’s insults, attacks Black Adam. The two exchange powerful punches, causing the whole room to tremble. Mary tries to urge Freddie to transform and help her brother but he seems lazy and uninterested.
The battle rages as the Rock of Eternity seems to be at the verge of collapsing, suddenly the wizard stands from his throne, lightning flies from his fingers as he yells “ENOUGH!” His eyes glow with power as he whispers ancient magic words. Dark spirits are exorcised from Billy, Adam, Freddie and Twany. The Wizard smiles and asks the spirits “Did you really think you could escape that easily!?” With a wave of his hand the Wizard places the escaped Enemies of Man back into their statue prisons.
Now clear headed Billy asks, what happen? The Wizard explains “Oh it’s quite simple. Next time we are to have a feast in Rock of Eternity, best not place the table in front of the ancient evils!”
